I'm a trained and insured yoga teacher, a Yoga4Health provider, and am aware of key principles for mindful yoga movement with osteoporosis and lower bone density, though I'm not a medical professional, yoga therapist or personal trainer.
A calm, breath-led Hatha practice designed to build awareness, trust, balance, mobility and strength.
The course includes a mix of floor-based and standing postures, and is best suited to those who are already comfortable with mat-based yoga.
It's informed by both professional training and personal experience of rebuilding strength and confidence following Pregnancy Associated Osteoporosis.
The course takes you on a journey through the body, guided by nature-based themes:
Grounding earth
Flowing water
Driving fire
Caring air
Being space
Integration.

My approach acknowledges that external change, learning, adaptation and inner change are iterative, and that a greater sense of calm and clarity often emerge through a balance of movement and stillness, rather than waiting until everything feels resolved.
I work with people through a mix of the following (always listening and acting as a facilitator with wellbeing and change in mind):
Guided relaxation and mindful movement
Breathwork and yoga
Reflective planning conversations
When something needs to shift
Research and decision making around moving home
Finding the right place and navigating the process
Writing your personal story
For clarity, catharsis, legacy or remembrance
“Life can only be understood backwards but it must be lived forwards.”
— Søren Kierkegaard (1843)
I can either come to you (within 15 minutes travel) or we can meet in a treatment or meeting room in or near Surbiton or Molesey. Online might also be possible.
Sessions usually last up to one hour, potentially allowing time for prep, follow-up and/or travel if required and depending on the service.
Please choose your preferred time and date when booking and I’ll contact you to confirm. Please also write the service you’d like in the comments box.

About
I teach mindful yoga for wellbeing for both adults and children, with a focus on breath-led, calm and steady movement, gradually building mobility, strength and balance from the ground up.
I also draw on my varied background to support people, organisations and communities through change in different ways. I write too and share ideas on health, home, community and change. I’m interested in the role services, communities and places play in supporting wellbeing, particularly through life transitions.

Tessa is a great yoga teacher. Her sessions are always really gentle, about connection with the body and breath and I always love her meditations at the beginning and end of the sessions.

It was a much overdue return to Yoga after many years. Tessa was a great teacher, I enjoyed the class, being taken through some postures i’d forgotten about, and gently nudged through others I knew but wasn’t doing very well. Highly recommended

Thank you Tessa for such a warm and informative session that exceeded all my expectations. Your thoughtful and considered questions not only helped to clarify my thoughts, direction and needs; you also helped me walk away from the session with clear and actionable next steps. This is exactly what I needed at this time and thank you for helping me to get to this point. Really appreciated your input and time taken to really listen and understand my goals.
